Tea Base
- 1/2 cup dried hibiscus flowers
- 4 cups water
Sweetener (optional)
- 2–3 tablespoons honey, sugar, or preferred sweetener
- Heat Water: Bring 4 cups of water to a boil in a pot or kettle.
- Steep Hibiscus Flowers: Place the dried hibiscus flowers in a heatproof pitcher or teapot. Pour the hot water over the flowers and let them steep for 10-15 minutes to extract the deep flavor and vibrant color.
- Strain: Use a fine mesh strainer to strain out the hibiscus flowers, transferring the liquid to a clean container.
- Sweeten: While the tea is still warm, add your choice of sweetener, stirring until fully dissolved. Adjust sweetness to your preference.
- Chill: Refrigerate the tea for at least 1 hour or until thoroughly chilled. Serve over ice for a cool, refreshing drink.
Notes
- You can adjust steeping time to your taste; longer times produce a stronger, more tart tea.
- Alternative sweeteners such as agave syrup, stevia, or maple syrup can be used.
- Adding a slice of lime or a sprig of mint can enhance the flavor.
- Hibiscus tea can be enjoyed hot or cold depending on preference.
