For the Gnocchi

  • 500g potato gnocchi

  • 250g mushrooms, sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 2 tbsp olive oil or butter

  • Freshly ground black pepper, to taste
  • Optional: fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Cook the Gnocchi: Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the gnocchi and cook according to the package instructions, usually until they float to the surface, about 2-3 minutes. Drain and set aside.
  2. Sauté the Mushrooms: In a large skillet, heat olive oil or butter over medium heat. Add the sliced mushrooms and cook until they release their moisture and start to brown, about 5-7 minutes.
  3. Add Garlic: Stir in the minced garlic and sauté for an additional 1-2 minutes until fragrant, taking care not to burn the garlic.
  4. Make the Cream Sauce: Pour in the heavy cream and stir to combine. Let it simmer gently for 3-5 minutes until the sauce thickens slightly. Season with salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste.
  5. Toss Gnocchi with Sauce: Add the cooked gnocchi to the skillet with the creamy mushroom sauce. Gently toss everything together to coat the gnocchi evenly with the sauce.
  6. Serve: Transfer to serving plates and garnish with chopped fresh parsley if desired. Serve immediately while warm.

  • For a lighter version, substitute heavy cream with half-and-half or a plant-based cream alternative.
