Main Ingredients
- 1 cup brewed strong coffee
- 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon powdered gelatin
- 1 cup heavy cream, chilled
- Bloom Gelatin: Sprinkle the powdered gelatin over 2 tablespoons of cold water and let it sit for 5 minutes to bloom completely.
- Heat Coffee Mixture: In a small saucepan, heat the brewed coffee with the sugar over medium heat until the sugar dissolves and the mixture is hot but not boiling. Remove from heat.
- Dissolve Gelatin: Add the bloomed gelatin to the hot coffee mixture and stir until the gelatin is fully dissolved. Allow the mixture to cool to room temperature but not set.
- Whip Cream: In a chilled bowl, whip the heavy cream until soft peaks form. Be careful not to overbeat.
- Combine Mixtures: Gently fold the cooled coffee-gelatin mixture into the whipped cream using a spatula. Fold gently to retain the airy texture.
- Chill to Set: Spoon the mixture into serving dishes and refrigerate for at least 4 hours or until the mousse is firm and set.
Notes
- Use freshly brewed strong coffee or espresso for the best flavor.
- Make sure the gelatin is fully dissolved to avoid lumps.
- Folding gently maintains the mousse’s light texture.
- For a richer taste, add a tablespoon of coffee liqueur if desired.
- The mousse can be garnished with cocoa powder, coffee beans, or whipped cream before serving.
