Delight in these warm, freshly baked donuts coated with a rich and sweet brown sugar glaze. Made with pumpkin purée and a perfect balance of flour and sugars, these donuts blend fall flavors with a soft texture and a luscious glaze for a comforting treat.

Ingredients

Scale

Dough

  • 1 cup pumpkin purée
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar

Brown Sugar Glaze

  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Dough: In a large mixing bowl, combine the pumpkin purée, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until smooth. Gradually add the flour, mixing until a soft dough forms.
  2. Shape the Donuts: Roll out the dough on a floured surface to about 1/2 inch thickness. Use a donut cutter or two round cutters to form donut shapes and holes.
  3. Bake the Donuts: Place the donuts on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for 15-18 minutes until they are golden and spring back when touched.
  4. Make the Brown Sugar Glaze: In a small saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Stir in the brown sugar and milk, cooking until the sugar dissolves and the mixture is smooth. Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract.
  5. Glaze the Donuts: Dip the warm donuts into the brown sugar glaze or use a spoon to coat them generously. Allow the glaze to set for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

  • For a spiced variation, add 1 teaspoon cinnamon and 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg to the dough.
  • If you prefer a thicker glaze, cook the brown sugar mixture a little longer to reduce it further.
  • Donuts are best enjoyed fresh on the day they are baked.
  • Can be stored in an airtight container for up to 2 days at room temperature.
